(1) Introduction to Revit : Interface #Revit2018

hi in this video we’ll discuss the
interface of Revit and when I’m saying Revit I mean the generic Revit which
contains the three disciplines okay a Revit architecture structure and a maybe
this is what you will get as your interface as initial interface or
opening screen you will see the latest for projects that you open so you can
it’s a shortcut so you can open them other than that you can use these links
in order to open an existing file creating a new one or use one of the
existing templates or if you want to do any customization for the families in
Revit at the right you can see resources and you have to be online in order to
utilize these resources videos about what’s new help and what’s new videos
essential scales additional videos and so on and so forth is that a very basic
ones by the way and of course we have the tap over here called file which will
allows you to open any file lots of files that you opened lately in your in
your machine or you can create open or create a new project or open an existing
one or save as or export whatever you want to do with it so let’s let’s do
this let’s go to open and let’s open the first exercise which is 1-1 and you can
see that extension for the project is RVT so our beti is very simple to
remember these are the project files and we’ll say open it will take a couple of
seconds and you will see an opened project of you of rabbits
now let’s let’s go through the different parts of the screen Revit is actually
based on the ribbon upwards which called ribbon and consists of tabs architecture
structure systems insert annotate and so on all tabs are as you can see have a
color of gray and when you select it it will be white different coloring we can
discuss that in the settings and each of these tabs each one contains panels so
structure tab contains structure panel connection panel foundation
reinforcement model opening datum and word plane if you go to for instance
view you will see graphics presentation create sheet composition and windows now
a panel has two status it’s either docked like this or it’s
floating how can I make a duct panel floating by simply clicking the title
click and hold and then move it outward and you can see even the screen or the
sizes of the buttons changes and you can return it by doing the same procedure
and or you can use return it by hovering over it then use this button small
button called return panels to repin it returns back to the correct place
now Revit is based on a very simple concept which called their views so if
we look here for this window called the project browser we will see that views
all is already expanded structural plans is already shown and you can see the
list of views that’s already created and this project other parts of project
browsers are Legend schedules on quantities she’s all families group and
Earth all of these would be discussed through the core so it’s gonna be a
lengthy and comprehensive course now in order to know which view I am right now
it will you will see that it’s bold which is called 3d so let’s go and
double click on ground and there you go I’m seeing the ground floor structural
floor of this project tof you will see these views you can see elevations as
well 3d let’s go and see West elevation there you go and South elevation and you
can see some 3d views like 3d elevator ground floor and we understand that in a
moment what we are doing and other things that available here so whenever
you want to create not to create to make a view as a current view simply you
double-click it from the project browser now let’s go to tof top of footing and
you can see there are lots of components over here for instance if I zoomed over
here and click on this one and you can see the properties this one
to call the properties you will see the window the window our property is
showing parameters or some properties about whatever you selected so the level
is zero zero ground the height zero the material used all of the other stuff is
shown here of course the information will change depending on the type of
element you selected for instance if you look here we selected a wall it’s a
basic wall and the information listed here and properties is different so
double click on the wheel now a very simple thing that we’d need to know that
this is the window to show the views the sport which is the biggest part of the
screen and very important to understand how to use it for instance if I want to
use the zooming in each of our mouse each of our money’s we have a wheel the
wheel has four different functions for zooming for instance if I want to zoom
to this part I’ll move my mouse here and move the wheel forward so I’m seeing now
I’m zooming in if I want to see something adjacent to my part that’s
already zoomed I’ll hold the mouse wheel and move it right or left now I’m moving
it left so I can see these parts if I want to zoom out simply I will move the
wheel backwards if I want to see the whole model I’ll double-click the wheel
so for functions again move the mouse wheel forward it’s zooming and backward
zooming out click and hold and move to the right left up and down that’s
panning and finally double click of the wheel of course you can get the same
functions though they are not as simple like that the four functions of the
wheel we discussed but for instance you can get a zoom out zoom to FET and zoom
region which will actually allow you to do like that which is zoom window we
call it zoom window double click on the wheels they are function of doing that
now let’s go back to the 3d view that we started with and I will show you how we
can manipulate the view meaning how can I see that the part behind the part that
I’m seeing right now all I have to do is to hold my shift key then move my mouse
wheel the way I want to see it you can see that I am right now moving that up
and down like this rotating it if I want to all I have to do is to hold the shift
key at the keyboard then move your when mouse wheel the way that you want it to
move the same effect you can get from here which is the view cube
view cube will show you that it’s you can see the top view and you can see
views from different angles of the cube you can see whenever right-clicking you
can see a different from top or from bottom and you can see that it’s
actually moving with me you can see an edge view by clicking on the edge and this is what we are doing it’s very
simple and yet very effective for you this is the right of view court you
cannot compare this the right view with the right elevation view because this is
a 3d view and still I can move it the way I want it of course there is the
home view which will allow you to do you retain the view to the original view
that you want great now still we are in the concept of showing different views
is what we call creating a camera creating a camera so what we will do
will go to the tof double-click on it and then we can go over here to the
default 3d view click on the triangle and select camera and what we can do is
we can choose a point to start then we can click on this this is the view that
we will get on getting a camera and I can change my scope by doing that this
is the right place now to discuss the different parts of the view control bar
which is that the detail level our force for instance there is what we call the
visual style the wireframe which is the default one hidden lines you can see the
hidden lines and we have the shaded this is the shaded let’s go back and so the
wireframe and of course we can zoom and zoom out you can see the different beams
over here different columns but Saul actually messed up with each other and
if we go like now we can still use the mouse where the shaft
in order to orbit our model the only way that we can get a perspective view as
this part of my view control bar suggests is using a camera now if you
have the original ones for instance if I went here and select West foundation
wall you can see that there is there is what we call a scale of this view you
cannot see the word perspective perspective is only triggered by using a
camera we can turn this off by right-clicking over here and say toggle
to parallel 3d view and now we can see it’s a parallel 3d view it’s our eye is
a metric and we can right click over here again and say toggle to perspective
view you cannot get this unless you are using what we call the camera now inside
this view I can manipulate lots of things I can change the scope as I said
before and I can use what we call the steering the steering wheel steering
wheel got eight functions we’ll start with look and we click and hold and this
is looking as if we are looking from different parts and then we have up and
down and once we start going up in a straight or up and down
we are moving over the place and we can let’s me let me do an up and down couple
of times so I can go here and then I can start walking into my model click and
hold then move your mouse to the right to the left or simply forward and you
can see that you are moving through the whole thing this is one of
very nice tools that can help you doing our understanding your model battles
very good for managers to understand the model how was constructed of course we
have orbit that like the one we set before its orbit just like holding the
shaft with the mouse wheel and then we have the zoom I can change
zooming of course this is a 3d zoom this is not the normal to tease room and we
have the pan again this is a 3d pen and finally we have the revent which will
show you lots or all of the steps that you made inside your steering wheel
command so we’ll close this and let’s go back to the tof and I want to get rid of
this camera now you can see here for a 2d view that it will show you the scale
and we have what we call a detail level a detail level sorry a detail level and
a detail level can show you at different things of your model we will discuss
that in a more details later on you can see that it’s either coarse or let me
show you that closer medium and fine you can we will
see that in the coming session so you shouldn’t worry about it and we will see
the effect of having a detailed level of different things of course we have as we
said the wireframe and the 3d and the Hedden or in the shaded and industry
that you can see it’s all shaded and as if we are in the 3d and of course we
have some things that will control our view we’ll discuss that when we will
come to it something like this which is show analytical model very important and
then there’s reveal constraints we have reveal hidden elements and temporarily
hide and isolate sometimes this part of the screen will not actually show
anything unless you started a comment for instance we’ll start the wall
command you can see lots of options over here let’s call the options bar and you
can see the options bar full of information that depends on each of the
things that we want to do what art recommends that we want to utilize this
will affect their options the bar again part of what we have here at the part at
the top left we call it that quick access toolbar and in the quick access
toolbar we have normal functions like open save undo redo print and align
dimension attacking by category 3d section thin line thick line and close
head and windows will discuss close at the windows in a moment now if you click
over here and you can see that all of these commands are available for you
whatever you have the correct sign you will get what the
the button representing it for instance if you click on new you can see a new
one added and if I want to for instance synchronize with the central I don’t
want that it will be removed from side so I can customize the quick access
toolbar of course these are help and you can see up here that we are dealing with
Autodesk Revit 2018 so in a nutshell these are the parts that we will deal
with that and if there are if there is a part that we did not discuss it in this
simple session we will discuss that when will come to the functions related at
wait now we open lots of views let’s go to view and we go to windows and then we
will click on tile windows and you can see there are nine different views
opened in front of me part of it is showing part of the model now a very
simple trick is to use typing the certain commands in Revit for instance
if you type Z a without pressing enter Z a that means it’s June for all for all
windows zoom all for all windows so Z a and you can see that all of my model is
shown over here now opening lots of views will slow down your machine and
will make you model or your processing of your model heavier so what you need
to do is we’ll go to and maximize this double click on the wheel to get it as
well and we will use this simple button called closer then this one is the
identical to this one by the way so we’ll click on close hidden and then
we’ll go to tile and you see there are no more
views open except the one that we are dealing with it’s a very good practice
for dealing with our views so we don’t need to face a slower software that’s it
