How to Install the AnyTone DMR Radio Programming software(CPS) on a Mac

– Hi everyone this is Cody
from Bridgecom Systems, and in this video I’m
going to be showing you how to install the AnyTone
CPS software on a Mac. So a few quick things I
want to get out of the way before we start this procedure. This is not a procedure that we Bridgecom are going to support. This is purely an informational video. If you’d like to try
this yourself it’s all at your own risk and we will not entertain questions to do with this. So what we’ll need is a
program called VirtualBox, and we’ll get to that
in a second or any other virtual machine. This is simply going to actually
install Windows on your Mac to be able to use it with
the AnyTone software. Now while this procedure
may be a good option for you what I would actually
recommend doing is getting a cheap Windows computer
like a Windows XP laptop off of Ebay. It’s going to be able to
fully work with the software You won’t run into any bugs,
you won’t mess up your Mac or anything like that,
and that’s personally what I would do, but if you do
want to go ahead and put it on your Mac it is
possible and we’ll show you how to do it. So first lets run through
exactly what we’ll need before we get started. So obviously you’ll need a Mac computer. Now it’s best if this is
a somewhat fast computer, as a slow computer may end
up not being able to run the two operating systems at the same time and could end up crashing. Now second you’ll need
a valid copy of Windows. Now in this case we’re using Windows 10. So you’ll just need to obtain
that valid activation code. Okay, so first open up a
web browser and do a google search for VirtualBox, and
just click on the first link there. Virtualbox.org then go to downloads. Download the OSX host. And then just open it. Now at this point you want
to double click on the first file there the Virtualbox package, and then just select continue. Now from this point you can
continue with the installation Although we will have
to perform another step. So go ahead and type in your password. Now at this point it’s not
actually going to work. You’ll be prompted with
a window here to allow it into your security. So go ahead and open your
Prefrences and click Allow. And now we have to close
out of here and restart the installation process, go
ahead and keep that file. There it goes same procedure
except this time it’s actually going to work properly. There we go it’s successful
so you can go ahead and move that file to the trash. Then open up Launchpad
and go over and click on VirtualBox. You can also do this by going to your application folder, and click new. And go ahead and select
the operating system. Windows 10 64-bit in this case, and then go ahead and give
your Windows computer a name. Click continue, now here’s
where you can select your ram, now in this video
here I actually selected all of the available
recommended memory that we could allocate to it, but
I would actually recommend doing probably less then that. I ended up to have this
run the best it could as well as be able to
use my Mac outside of it, I recommend about six
gigabytes so 6,000 megabytes, and I have 16 gigs of ram,
but you can play with it just don’t do to much otherwise
your computer may crash or may not function properly
outside of this program. Then we do actually have to
create a virtual hard disk. Now obviously you want to
have some extra space on your hard drive before you do
something like this because it’s going to take up,
the recommended space is about 50 gigabytes so if
you don’t have that much and probably more space free I would not recommend doing this. So just go ahead and
create a virtual hard disk. Now you could go ahead and
do the recommended option there at the top, just do
the VirtualBox disk image, and click Continue. Now I would recommend doing
the dynamically allocated drive but that is up to you. Now go ahead and click Start. Now from this point we’ll need
a bootable file for windows so I just typed in in Google
Windows 10 bootable USB, and was able to find what we need. So just click on the first
link there microsoft.com, and select the correct version. Now click Confirm. And then chose a language. Now you want to select
the 64-Bit download, and just save that file. Now in VirtualBox we actually
want to open up that file, and then click start. And from here it’s going
to launch Windows 10, and at this point we can
just go through the entire setup process. Now keep in mind you will
need an activation key however you obtain that for Windows 10. You may be able to find a way
to do this on the internet, I will leave that up to you
on how you want to do that, but you’ll just need a valid
Windows 10 activation key. Okay so now open up a
browser now that we’re inside of Windows. Go to bridgestonesystems.com Now at this point it’s
basically the same procedure to install the software on
your computer as any other Windows computer. We have a video that will show
you exactly how to do that on Bridgecom University so Just go ahead and install
the CPS of your choice from the support page and then
we’ll show you that it works. Okay so here we are. We have a working version
of CPS on Windows running inside of Mac OS. Now there is a couple more
things you’ll have to do to be able to make this
work with your radio. Cause currently if we click
on the comport settings it’s not actually going to show us anything. So what you want to do
is close out of there, then go to settings. Go to ports, and click on USB. Now click on the USB
icon with the green plus. The second one down on the right. And go ahead and plug in
your radio make sure it’s turned on, there ya go. Now click on the GD32 virtual comport, and click Okay. Then press Start again. Now it’s just going to leave
off where we were before. There we go so we’re
inside of the CPS again. Now go ahead and select
the comport and we’ll see if we can see the radio. There we go com three, go ahead and select that. Now we’re just going to
try and read from the radio make sure it actually works. And there we go it’s working. There we go, so I’ve
successfully read an AnyTone 878 radio on Mac OS inside of Windows. So to get out of this
software, if you’ve actually locked your mouse inside of it. Just go ahead and shutdown
the Windows computer, and it will automatically
get you out of there. There you go and it’s that simple. So hopefully you liked this video. If you did give it a big thumbs up. Share with anyone you
know who might be having the same issue as you. Don’t forget to like us on Facebook Subscribe to our YouTube channel Hit that notification bell You don’t want to miss out on anymore awesome videos

I have been using a Mac to work with my AnyTone CPS. I use Boot Camp, which is an application that Apple provides with the MacOS, to either boot my Mac Book Pro as either a Mac or Windows machine. You have to have a current version of Windows to install. The disadvantage you can be in only one operating system at a time and have to restart the computer to switch between operating system. The advantage is the app (Boot Camp) is all ready installed on the Mac. It was a lot cheaper than purchasing and maintaining a second computer.

I’ve been using Virtual Box for various situations that require windows, most of it for radio CPS software. I can say I’ve been using this exact method for years now with great results.
